"Moving a physical disk head... is so last century," said Allan Snavely, associate director of San Diego Supercomputer Center. Unlike slower, hard disk drives that use moving parts, the Intel chips and Intel® High-Performance Solid-State Drives have been chosen for the University of California, San Diego's Gordon project that will build one of the world's most powerful supercomputers that will be dedicated to solving critical science and societal problems. Chip Shot: Intel, IT Industry Collaborate for Taiwan Typhoon Relief

Intel Taiwan is working with Acer, Asus, Microsoft Taiwan, the Ministry of Education, Red Cross Society and Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology to set up IT learning environments for schools and digital services centres for communities to support the Typhoon Morakot disaster relief. Through this program, Acer, Asus, Intel Taiwan and Microsoft Taiwan will donate a total of 4,500 notebook PCs, netbooks, and desktop PCs with OS and software to help expedite education and community rebuilding in the typhoon affected areas. The typhoon-devastated schools will gain support from this program which combines PC donation and teachers training courses for building the IT learning environments. The digital services centers at communities are intended to support the agricultural products e-marketing, tourism development, indigenous culture communication, and after-school education.

Intel Capital congratulates Enjoyor Technology Group for its successful initial public offering (IPO) today on China's Growth Enterprise Market (GEM). The launch of China's GEM is a significant milestone for the Chinese capital market and Enjoyor's listing is another example of Intel Capital's support of local technology innovation and entrepreneurship. Intel Capital invested in Enjoyor Technology Group earlier this year with the goal of expanding Enjoyor's research and development in traffic intelligence and its digital healthcare business. Enjoyor is the first Zhejiang enterprise to complete an IPO on the GEM, which provides a platform to finance companies in industries such as information technology, bio-medical and new energy. An updated version of the Intel® SOA Expressway for Healthcare, a high-performance health information gateway used by ISVs and system integrators like IGI to share information inside hospitals and with community caregivers and health information networks, is available for download. Using the Intel gateway for system interface and message processing within its ORBIT Portal, IGI has helped Newark Beth Israel Medical Center securely share emergency room patient records, immunization information and Medicaid medication history with New Jersey's state-run health information exchange. Chip Shot: Intel Files Sanction Motion against AMD

Intel has filed a motion in Delaware seeking sanctions against Advanced Micro Devices in the pending antitrust case. Intel asserts AMD failed to adequately retain documents in the case it filed against Intel in June of 2005. Intel also asserts that AMD misrepresented its efforts and tried to hide its failures from the Court and Intel. AMD claimed to have an "exemplary" scheme to retain documents in this case. It is clear that AMD did not and that some AMD executives and employees failed to retain thousands of documents and emails. Click here for more information.
