The Intel X25-M Solid-State Drive (SSD) received two more awards this week including a Consumer Electronics Association CES Innovations Award. The X25-M was also named a Gold Medal Winner as Editor Best in the Hardware Storage Category by Penton Media's Windows IT Pro. Introduced in July, the Intel X25-M is the industry's first SSD on 34nm NAND flash memory manufacturing process - delivering the same or better performance over its 50nm version, at a fraction of the cost.

Intel Announces 12.5 Percent Increase in Cash Dividend

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 16, 2009 –Intel Corporation today announced that its board of directors has approved a 12.5 percent increase in the quarterly cash dividend to 15.75 cents per share (63 cents per share on an annual basis), beginning with the dividend that will be declared in the first quarter of 2010.

Justin Rattner, Intel CTO, kicked off the Supercomputing 2009 (SC'09) conference today. Rattner asserted that the 3-D internet has the potential to be the "killer app" that can drive growth for High Performance Computers (HPC). He unveiled and demonstrated a new framework called ScienceSim, an open source virtual world that Intel helped to create for SC'09. He discussed examples of ScienceSim being used for applications from fern ecology to fashion research.

Using 2,304 Intel® Xeon® 5500 series processors, NASA's Pleiades supercomputer has increased its "brainpower" by 35 percent allowing scientists to make new discoveries and gain greater insight into Earth's system and climate change. To boost parallel programming, Intel introduced a Web-based service that allows software developers to assess how their applications will perform on a number of multicore processor configurations. Powered by Intel® Parallel Studio, the Intel® Parallel Universe Portal is a cloud computing analysis tool that tests parallel applications, written for the Windows operating system, in multicore environments on an on-demand basis. The tool is currently available to members of the Intel Software Network through the Intel Parallel Universe Portal at no charge.
